Here’s an idea for you- non alcoholic mulled punch. I’ve pinched this idea from the family friends whose house we always spend Christmas Eve evening at- it’s perfect for adding a touch of festive cheer on a night when you’re driving or just don’t want to add the alcoholic content.
As my computer seems to have swallowed up my Brussels photos, never to be seen again, I’m moving on from Belgium to my trip last week to Germany. My sister is working near a town called Gutersloh for 4 months, so I spent 3 nights there visiting Christmas markets and seeing what life is like on a UK Army Base.
I expected Gluhwein, but what I didn’t expect was the massive array of drinks on offer! Continue reading
It’s Friday after all, so meet your new favourite cocktail. This is a little behind the seasons due to my slightly extended break from blogging, but elderflower cordial is easy enough to come by in the supermarket, so just imagine you made it yourself. Whilst I made gallons of the stuff, my supplies are long gone by now anyway!
Into a large wine glass, add several crushed mint leaves (rub in your hand to release their aroma), a squeeze of lime and the rest of the slice and a decent amount of ice. Add a dash of elderflower cordial, top with prosecco and a little bit of sparkling water (to taste). I like a fair bit of water in mine as it makes it so refreshing but you don’t want to water it down too much.
I discovered these on the menu at Zizzi at the same time my parents discovered them on holiday in Italy. On their return, I spent an evening at their house having a bit of a hugo-off with my Dad. He wanted to add sparkling elderflower and cordial rather than fizzy water with cordial. It worked, but I still preferred mine, more crisp somehow!
Delicious and super easy. What more could you want?!
Somehow, since the hot weather began, evenings in our flat have consisted of Tour de France highlights with a cocktail in hand on many an occasion. Tonight, as the peloton rolls into Paris to conclude this year’s race, is no exception. The only slight exception is that we are watching the live race rather than the highlights- as it’s the 100th TDF, the race organisers delayed the start time so that the riders arrive into Paris at dusk rather than late afternoon- brilliant.
This evening’s edition is the Smoking Rum. Not the most summery of drinks, but the ginger gives it a refreshing twist.
Add a generous amount of ice to a hi-ball glass, and pour over the following:
- 50ml Spiced Rum (our current choice is Bacardi Oakheart)
- 50ml Ginger Beer (Bundaberg is the best!)
- 50ml Cloudy Apple Juice
Add a squeeze of Lime juice and a slice of Lime, stir and enjoy. Easy.
