Today is Saint Nicholas’s Eve- celebrated in the Netherlands (where I currently am for 4 days!) as Sinterklaasavond (Sinterklaas’ Eve). In Dutch tradition, Sinterklaas arrives on a boat from Spain on his white horse, accompanied by zwarte Piets (black Peters) who help him to distribute presents. I’m planning more information on Dutch Christmas traditions when I return from Amsterdam. This will be the third year in a row that Chris and I have been there for Sinterklaasavond, and it’s a lovely atmosphere.
